'The British Ceramics Biennial' - Spodeworks

Having worked as an illustrator for many years it wasn’t long into my pottery journey before these two worlds began to merge. The joy of creating artwork combining both beauty & practical function has always felt particularly fulfilling.

My ceramic work focuses on traditional wheel thrown forms which are brought to life with intricate hand illustrated decoration. I predominantly throw using stoneware before working into the clay using an array of decorative materials and techniques including coloured slips, stains, underglazes, glazes, sgraffito and wax resist. Themes centre on a joyous appreciation for the natural world and reflect my love of the surrounding countryside. Based in rural Kent I work from my garden studio, taking seasonal inspiration from the native plants and wildlife around me. I am heavily influenced by traditional folk art and historical crafts. All pieces are crafted and decorated by hand meaning no two are ever exactly the same.

I predominantly sell my work at ceramic fairs and gallery exhibitions so please check my upcoming shows page to see where I am next showing!
